Barefoot running Day 1: chased a rabbit

I hate running.

I’m slow. I can’t run far. I hate the feeling of my heels sending shock-waves through my legs as they hit. Plus, running is boring as heck.

But, I’m in pain most days recently.

I get pain in my back from my muscles clenching up too much. I’ve had weak core muscles; though they are now stronger since I got physical therapy. But, basically, my muscles aren’t in the right condition to enable me to sit for 8 hours in front of a computer every day in order to do my job. They’re not even strong enough to enable me to stand in front of my computer, which I do when I can’t sit because of the pain. I’m borderline in pain all day, every day, because my lower back is so tight.

So, I need to do something about that.

This morning, since I woke up early, I took off my shoes, which I hadn’t yet put on yet anyway, and walked outside.

And ran.

My feet are tender so I can’t run far, but I don’t have all that much stamina anyway, so my lungs gave out before my feet hurt.

Then, I saw rabbits running away from my on this beautiful morning.

So, I chased one.

And chased one, and chased one. I thought he’d shoot into a hole right quick, but instead he kept darting between buildings. So did I. He was a fast little bugger, so I ran as fast as I could, thinking about my brother’s comments that humans can run down a horse because the horse, a four-legged creature, runs faster than a human initially, but will tire faster also; thinking about how this little rabbit has got to be designed for quick dashes; thinking that it was really fun running after this little furball.. who eventually disappeared.

Life is beautiful. Life is filled with difficulties and horrible moments, but it’s filled with huge doses of beauty.
