Food: Needing Inspiration, went to a different store

I’ve been in a food rut recently. For me, eating well means eating healthy, but eating healthy for me is different than for others: I’m not trying to lose weight, I’m trying balance my energy so that I don’t have crashes or brain “fuzz-outs” during the day.

So, instead of eating low-fat foods, I’m trying to increase my fat content; albeit, healthy fat from avocados, nuts, and cheeses. I’m also trying to eat more protein, while also eat more beans, and other things that make me feel satisfied so that my energy stays level most of the day.

So, let’s review what I’m eating: protein, beans, cheese, avocados, fruit—lots of it, which surprisingly has been somewhat filling—peanut butter, yogurt, egg whites, and that’s pretty much it. It feels good when I eat it, but I’m bored stiff. Bored. Stiff. And I have difficulty thinking of different ways to mix these things up.

So, today I went to the Sunshine Market because I heard that there vegetables are low cost (they are). From the outside, it looks like it’s going to be not-nice inside. It is very nice inside. It’s a great store. Their fruit and vegetables look great. And Jeff, in produce, was incredibly knowledgeable… in fact, he is the most knowledgeable fruit guy I’ve ever met. He taught me, among many valuable things, something my stomach can’t use: you can cut off the top of your pineapple, leave it on it’s side for a week or two until it is “blanched” and then you can rest it on top of moist dirt and the pineapple top will grow little pineapples! To top that off, it turns out that each generation of pineapple that is grown is smaller than the one before, and so after 3 years pineapple growers kill the plant and grow a new one since they grow so easily. Interesting. I now have a pineapple top laying on its side in my kitchen window.
